No matter your swing, by repeating it without much thought, you’ll improve on the golf course. (Michael Zito/Eclipse Sportswire) |
In our golf instruction, we constantly share swing thoughts that produce or re-enforce swing feels.
This is so we can repeat the feel, as opposed to reproducing complex mechanical procedures -- you know, like tuck the elbow, force down the heel, neutralize the wrist and make the club go inside-out.
The conscious mind processes data and mechanics. The subconscious mind crafts the golf swing.
One cannot effectively produce mechanical adjustments during the actual swing. So we need not to attempt it. Simply develop and use a naturally repeating swing of the clubhead, down and through the ball, along the target line to the pin. And finish relaxed.
Ernie Els recently shared his swing thoughts with us: Low and slow. Pin.
How simple is that?
Do not think about positions or mechanics during your swing. Save this for the practice range.
Develop a productive feeling swing. And repeat the feel.
