The C's and D's of golf hold the key to improvement

The absolute reason we golf is for pure pleasure.

Sometimes, fun seems elusive, but it is the reason. One great shot in a round of golf brings us back for more. Golf is a survivor -- we can play as long as we can walk.

But we must learn the two D's and three C's to build a foundation for our game. Golf is as simple as the two D's -- distance and direction. If you strike the ball far enough and on line, it goes in the hole.

Between John Daly's length or Tom Kite's precision, would you choose Kite? Of course. A 200-yard drive in the middle beats a 250-yard drive in the bush.

The three C's are as follows:.

• Confidence: Trust your clubs and your swing. If not, your game will suffer.

• Comfort : Set up and swing comfortably. The best shot you ever made went click without too much other sensation.

• Consistency: This will follow confidence and comfort, as night follows day.
